Bernie Sanders Responds to Congressional Shooting

Bernie Sanders

What We Know Now

James T. Hodgkinson was identified as the shooter in Alexandria, Virginia today at the Republican baseball practice. Hodgkinson shot Congressman Steve Scalise and four other members in a deliberate attack on Republicans. Based off of his Facebook profile, letters to his local newspaper, and public records, Hodgkinson is a firm supporter of Bernie Sanders’ progressive views and has an intense hatred for conservatives and President Trump. President Trump said the gunman has been killed.

On his personal Facebook page, Hodgkinson posted “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.” on March 22nd, as well as a post in February that said, “Republicans are the Taliban of the USA.”

Hodgkinson was 66, married, and lives in Belleville, Illinois. He owned JTH Inspections, which he started in 1994, but quit the job on December 31st, 2016. His passion for leftist views date back to 2012 and he talks strongly about tax hikes on the rich and universal healthcare. Most of his Facebook posts also consist of signed petitions including one for getting Hillary to concede the Democratic nomination to Bernie.

Bernie Responds

After hearing about the shooting and the fact Hodgkins was a Bernie supporter, Sanders immediately took to the media to denounce the shooter. Check out the video below of Bernie’s response.

Bernie appropriately responds to the situation:

“Let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.”

This was the most appropriate response to the situation unlike Trump’s response to the Oregon stabbings. This, Mr. President, is how it’s done.
