Former Vice President Joe Biden just weighed in on White House aide Kelly Sadler’s cruel remarks about Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), and his message is powerful.
On Thursday, an aide to President Donald Trump named Kelly Sadler dismissed McCain’s call for his Senate colleagues to reject Trump’s CIA Director nominee Gina Haspel as irrelevant because “he’s dying” of brain cancer.
Sadler’s remark outraged McCain’s family and friends, including Biden, who stated on Friday condemning Sadler’s lack of decency. Biden also praised his friend’s heroism and patriotism.
“People have wondered when decency would hit rock bottom with this administration. It happened yesterday.”
“John McCain is a genuine hero – a man of valor whose sacrifices for his country are immeasurable. As he fights for his life, he deserves better – so much better.”
“Given this White House’s trail of disrespect toward John and others, this staffer is not the exception to the rule; she is the epitome of it.”
“Our children learn from our example. The lingering question is whose example it will be. I am sure it will be John’s.”

McCain called for the Senate to reject Haspel because of her role overseeing a torture program at a CIA black site in 2002. Haspel claimed she would refuse to restart the program if Trump ordered her to do so, but seemed to suggest that torture is “technically legal” even though it is outlawed under both national and international law.
McCain’s opinion especially matters because he suffered torture as a POW during the Vietnam War, which left lasting physical and psychological effects that McCain has lived with ever since.
Sadler’s remarks came not long after retired Lt. General Thomas McInerney went on Fox News to defend the use of torture and smeared McCain by claiming it “worked on” him.
So far, Sadler remains in her position at the White House, but it’s clear that the country is on McCain’s side.
