Dueling might be making a comeback thanks to a certain GOP lawmaker. We all know the Republicans want to go back in time but we didn’t think as far back as the 17th century.
The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown
Rep. Blake Farenthold is a right foul mouth git he is since he raised the idea on Monday to duel female Senators against the Trumpcare bill. Farenthold blames them for killing the efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare by not supporting the bill. The worst part is he’s only calling out females and not any men against the bill. Sen. Joe Manchin picked up the glove and accepted his challenge. He says he’s up for the duel and “I’d be okay to step outside with him.” Manchin also added that the GOP bill would leave his West Virginians “out in the cold” and defended Obamacare even though he admitted it does seem some repairs of its flaws.
Farenthold said on Monday that senators “do not have the courage to do some of the things that every Republican in the Senate has to do is just absolutely repugnant to me.” Repugnant? You find saving millions of lives and not committing genocide repugnant? Interesting. You also just condoned violence against women so we shouldn’t be surprised. Farenthold also targeted female Republican senators and said that if they were men from Texas, he would ask them to “step outside and settle this Aaron-Burr style.” Burr is famous for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel in 1804.
Three female Republicans specifically have spoken against the health care bill– Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. So far we have not heard the verdict of how they will be voting today.
