The vast majority of Republicans have no sense of humor whatsoever, and California Congressman Devin Nunes (R) is certainly no exception to that rule, especially when it comes to jokes made at his expense.
During an appearance on Fox News Saturday, Nunes was asked about a recent segment comedian Stephen Colbert featured on his nightly show which made fun of Nunes and how he’s handled the investigation being conducted into Russian interference in the 2016 election by the House Intelligence Committee, which Nunes chairs.
Rather than laugh off Colbert, Nunes began whining and then called the talk show host a threat to the United States:
“Yeah well, I think this is the danger that we have in this country, this is an example of it. So the left controls not only the universities in the country, but also control Hollywood in this country, and the mainstream media, so conservatives in this country are under attack and I think this is a great example of it, so I hope they’ll continue to do it.”
The right, Nunes neglected to mention, controls both houses of Congress and the White House. So why all the complaining?
Fox host Neil Cavuto then asked Nunes:
“When they say, ‘you’re doing the president’s bidding,’ is that fair? Is that right? What do you think?”
Nunes, who once made a late night trip to the White House in order to obtain bogus intelligence information he then tried to use to prove that President Trump had been wiretapped by Barack Obama, replied:
“I don’t know. We don’t get any orders from the White House. We don’t get any orders from anybody else.”
This is also the very same Devin Nunes who said at CPAC last month:
“I was asked to serve on the transition team. It was at that point I began getting accused by all sorts of media and some platforms that I was some sort of secret Russian agent. If anybody was going to be accused of being a Russian agent, I would have been down towards the bottom of the list, after you listed all the Democrats in Congress.”
No, Devin, the Democrats are furious at Russia, but you won’t even force President Trump to enforce the sanctions against the Kremlin passed overwhelmingly last year by Congress.
The real threat to the United States is people like Devin Nunes who want to make excuses for a compromised head of state.
