Deleted Tweet Shows Flynn’s Brother Wants Him Pardoned

Rumors and speculation have been swirling about a possible Presidential pardon since former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI. Many have guessed that the President might pardon Flynn in an attempt to halt any cooperation between him and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

On Tuesday, the President tweeted about the Russia investigation, claiming it is illegitimate and based on a dossier that is “bogus.”

In response to Trump’s tirade against the Russia probe, fired National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s younger brother Joseph tweeted saying, “About time you pardoned General Flynn who has taken the biggest fall for all of you given the illegitimacy of this confessed crime in the wake of all this corruption.”

The tweet was deleted, but Joseph Flynn confirmed that he did indeed write and post it. He said, “I said it, and maybe he’s listening,” referring to President Trump.

Joseph Flynn has good reason to believe the President might be open to the possibility of pardoning his big brother. Earlier this month, President Trump refused to take a Flynn pardon off the table. He told reporters, “I don’t want to talk about pardons for Michael Flynn yet. We’ll see what happens. Let’s see.”

After the President’s remarks to reporters, White House lawyer Ty Cobb attempted to clear things up saying, “No — there is no consideration at the White House of pardoning Michael Flynn.”

Michael Flynn was a member of Trump’s closest inner circle throughout the campaign and in the early days of the administration. The White House has been criticized for allowing Flynn to remain as National Security Adviser despite warnings from the then acting attorney general.

After the White House was informed that the Department of Justice had serious concerns about Flynn, he remained as an administration official and close adviser to the President for nearly three weeks. It was not until the concerns that were brought to the White House weeks prior were made public that Flynn was fired.
