Fox News just made the most unspeakable comparison probably ever made in American history. Fox and Friends host Brian Kilmeade just compared the 9/11 memorials to Confederate statues.
Asks If It Will Be Torn Down
Kilmeade asked the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke if the 9/11 memorial in Shanksville, PA would be torn down someday. The memorial in Pennsylvania serves as a reminder to the passengers of Flight 93 who risked their lives to take back the plane from terrorists. The plane was believed to be headed towards the White House before the brave passengers took back the plane and crashed into a field. Flight 93 was the last of the highjacked planes.
“Do you worry 100 years from now someone’s going to try and take that memorial down like they’re trying to remake our memorials today?” Kilmeade asked Zinke, who is attending the ceremony today in Shanksville.
“Well I’m one that believes that, you know, we should learn from history,” Zinke replied. “And I think our monuments are part of our country’s history. We can learn from it.
“Since we don’t put up statues of Jesus, everyone’s going to fall morally short. And I think reflecting on our history, both good and bad, is a powerful statement and part of our DNA.”
What these men fail to remember is that most Confederate statues are of Generals and other prominent people of the Confederacy. Whether they choose to see the light or not the Confederates were traitors to the United States and should not be memorialized. The statues that honor soldiers who died in the war still stand. Kilmeade is not the only person to ask this question, unfortunately. the Governor of Maine, Paul LePage (R), recently made the comparison stating, “Listen, whether we like it or not, that is what our history is. And to me, it’s just like going to New York City right now and taking down the monument of those who perished in 9/11. It will come to that.”
We are not saying erase history. We have no statues of Hitler but yet he still remains known to everyone throughout the world. Taking down memorials to honor those lost in those horrible and terrifying terror attacks will never happen, they were not traitors to our country and started a war amongst ourselves. We will always continue to honor those who died and served their country proudly that day. These men need reality checks and to watch making sick and decrepit comments like that.
