President Donald Trump intensified his attack on the media on this Thursday, Feb. 16 conference at the White House where he once again characterized the press as “dishonest” from reporting that his administration is in disarray. He claims the opposite. “This administration is running like a fine-tuned machine.”
He said, “the press should be ashamed of themselves and the people who [leaked information to the press] should also be ashamed of themselves.”
He continued to lambast the press.
“The Wall Street Journal did a story today that was almost as disgraceful as the failing New York Times, and you saw it, front page … so director of national intelligence just put out … any suggestion that the central intelligence community … this is just disgraceful … is withholding information and not providing the best possible intelligence to the President and the national security team is not true. So they took this front page story out of The Wall Street Journal and they just wrote the story that it’s not true.”
He said he enjoys the arguing: “I’ll tell you something because I like to be honest … I sort of enjoy this sort of back and forth that I’ve seen all my life …”
And then implicates Frank Lee and political media on his hit list for dishonest journalism.
Trump defended retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who resigned Monday as national security adviser, amid mounting evidence that he misled administration officials about his phone calls to the Russian ambassador.
“Mike was doing his job, he was calling countries and his counterparts,” President Trump said. “So it certainly would have been okay with me if he did it. I didn’t direct him, but I would have directed him because that’s his job.”
When asked about the calls upon his winning of the election, Trump responded “President Putin called me up very nicely to congratulate me on the win of the election. He then called me up extremely nicely to congratulate me on the inauguration which was terrific but so did many other leaders.”
He then claimed, “In fact, almost all leaders from all of the countries” called him.
There are 196 countries in the world, by the way.
“That’s the extent. Russia. It’s just fake news. It’s just fake news put out by the media,” said Trump.
He had a few more bones to pick with the media.
He was particularly vehement about the following: He let The New York Times fly when he alluded to a story that was run about him on the front page.
“That was like the story they wrote about the women and me. Front page. Big, massive story. [Editor’s note: He waves his tiny hands]. And it was nasty.”
Then they called and said, “we never said that … we like Mr. Trump.”
They called up my office and said, “[the press] totally misrepresented those VERY WONDERFUL WOMEN …
When Trump demands a retraction and doesn’t get it?
“Frankly, I go onto other things,” he said.
