The White House’s new Communications Director, Anthony Scaramucci has previously declared war against the leaks that have been plaguing Trump’s administration. On Wednesday, Scaramucci tweeted an odd message that he will address the FBI on the latest leak regarding his financial disclosure.
The Tweet Had a Short Life
Scaramucci wrote that leaking his financial disclosure is a felony and that he will contact both the FBI and the Department of Justice. Moreover, he added White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus’ Twitter handle at the end of the message.
The tweet attracted the attention of users, not only because it looked like a direct attack to Priebus but also because his financial disclosure is a public document. Scaramucci was picking on a Politico report that posted the information. The article showed that the new Communications Director earned millions from his stake in the investment firm SkyBridge Capital. However, that could not be classified as a leak.
Wikileaks replied to Scaramucci by tweeting the requirements to obtain such a report. Scaramucci filed the report with the Office of Government Ethics. As he is not part of intelligence services, his financial disclosures can be public information. However, we do not know if Politico obtained the report through standard regulations.
Bombarded by messages that the disclosure is a public document and that the addition of Priebus looking suspicious, Scaramucci deleted the tweet. He then wrote that he was not launching an attack on Priebus. He was only notifying the Trump administration in an attempt to help end the leaks.

DOJ Agrees with Scaramucci
After the Twitter incident, the Department of Justice released a statement agreeing with Scaramucci’s point of view. Sarah Isgur Flores, a spokesperson from the DOJ stated:
We agree with Anthony that these staggering number of leaks are undermining the ability of our government to function and to protect this country.
In a press conference last week, Scaramucci also made a point to show he has no argument with Priebus. Aides from the White House have previously said that Priebus was against the appointment of Scaramucci as Communications Director. It is still unknown if this was indeed a leak.
