In 2012 President Obama set fuel-economy regulations for vehicles fleet average of 54.5 mpg by 2025. On Wednesday President Trump announced that he is going “re-examine Obama-era fuel efficiency rules for cars and trucks after meeting with auto companies and union leaders.
The President announced during a trip to Michigan he is going to put a midterm review of fuel efficiency standards and giving officials another year to study the issue. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed the President:
“one of the first steps in an all-out assault by the Trump administration to dismantle important environmental protection.”
The President claimed he does not want to “weaken” the policy but get rid of “job-killing regulations. The President said:
“These standards are costly for automakers and the American people,” EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt said in a written statement. “We will work with our partners at DOT to take a fresh look at determining if this approach is realistic. This thorough review will help ensure that this national program is good for consumers and good for the environment.”
This is another blow to environmentalist and the fight against global warming I would bet that the new study to be released in a year will say fuel mileage has no effect on the environment. The Trump Administration is continuing to hand everything over to corporations and the wealthy while the rest of us will suffocate in smog.
