Former Green party presidential candidate Jill Stein’s, and her campaign turned over documents to the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of its Russia investigation of meddling in the 2016 general election.
North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, the chair of the committee, confirmed to BuzzFeed News on Monday that Stein handed over documents the committee requested last year. Burr declined to answer any questions about the documents including when they were received.
“We got a sufficient supply; we got an adequate response from them.”
Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, the vice chair of the committee said:
“Received in the last — even just in the last few days — thousands of pages of … documents regarding some of our witnesses.”
Burr and Warner are both expressed interest when Stein attended a 2015 dinner in Moscow organized by Russian state-funded media company RT; she sat at the same table Putin was sitting at, as was former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Flynn has already pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and has agreed to cooperate with the Russia investigation.
Warner speaking of Stein said:
“has been a long-term defender of Mr. [Julian] Assange and WikiLeaks, which clearly was involved in dumping some disparaging information.”
Warner is referring to WikiLeaks’ role in publishing documents hacked from the DNC. The committee is also seeking information on Stein’s appearances on RT which in January 2017 the Intelligence Community on Russian election interference called RT a “propaganda outlet.”
When the committee was asked what they were looking for in Stein’s campaign Burr Said:
“collusion with the Russians.”
Burr told BuzzFeed News:
“We should look at Mike Flynn and not look at her? she became the candidate. She was the one that actually initiated a recount campaign. Where’d that money come from? Millions of dollars.”
Burr also added:
“We want to look to see if there’s any Russian connections to anything that happened in any campaigns, that’s what we were chartered to do.”
Stein’s campaign said it would soon complete its submission to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
