Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mitt Romney condemned President Donald Trump’s choice of bigoted pastor Robert Jeffress to deliver a prayer marking the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, Israel.
Trump’s decision to move the American embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem has been met with nearly universal condemnation around the globe as fears rise that more conflict is about to occur in the Middle East because of it. For decades, it has been the international precedent that Jerusalem is not considered the capital of Israel due to the fact that Palestinians have historical claims on the city.
But Trump declared Jerusalem the capital anyway.
And then he added further insult to injury by picking right-wing Dallas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress to deliver the prayer during the ceremonial opening of the new embassy on Monday.
Jeffress is not only an evangelical pastor who ignores Trump’s sins, including his affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, but he is also infamous for insulting every religion in the world except Christianity. Jeffress one said:
“Every other religion in the world is wrong. Islam is wrong, it is a heresy from the pit of Hell; Mormonism is wrong, it is a heresy from the pit of Hell. Judaism, you can’t be saved being a Jew.”

It's hard to put into words just how extreme Trump's evangelical adviser (and Fox News contributor) Robert Jeffress is –>

So, Trump chose an anti-Jewish Christian pastor to say a prayer in Jerusalem. One wonders what the Israelis must think about that considering the majority population in Israel is Jewish.
Mitt Romney certainly thinks Jeffress is a deplorable choice.
Currently running for the U.S. Senate in Utah, Romney slammed Jeffress for being a “religious bigot” and declared that he’s the wrong person to deliver a prayer in Jerusalem.
Robert Jeffress says “you can’t be saved by being a Jew,“ and “Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.” He’s said the same about Islam. Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem.

Romney is a devout Mormon, and he’s right about Jeffress. The fact that Trump picked him to represent the United States in Jerusalem is insulting to the American people and every single Jew in Israel. If Jeffress had his way, every Jew would renounce their faith and convert to Christianity.
Evangelicals like Jeffress literally believe Trump’s Jerusalem decision is going to bring about the “end times” and pave the way for Jesus’ return.
This isn’t about what’s best for Israel and America. It’s about appeasing Trump’s evangelical base.
