President Trump and his administration sparked significant controversy across the world when the announcement was made that the United States will move its embassy to Jerusalem. The move has been largely criticized internationally.
The announcement sparked outrage and violence in the Middle East and with allies of the US. Many world leaders have called upon the US to reconsider, with the understanding that moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem will greatly undermine attempts at peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
To that end, efforts have been made in the United Nations General Assembly to express international disapproval for the troubling move. In a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the President, in mobster like fashion, threatened to withhold money from countries that vote against the United States at the UN.
On Thursday, speaking before the General Assembly of the United Nations, Nikki Haley continued that threat. She said, “America will put our embassy in Jerusalem. That is what the American people want us to do, and it is the right thing to do. No vote in the United Nations will make any difference on that.”
That defiant statement is bad enough, but that was not all she said. She began her statement addressing the vote as an act of disrespect. She said:
“We will remember it when we are called upon to once again make the worlds largest contribution to the UN, and we will remember it when so many countries come calling on us as they so often do to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit.”

After making abundantly clear that the United States is utterly uninterested in the beliefs of fellow UN nations, Haley said that the UN vote wouldn’t make a difference, “But this vote will make a difference in how Americans look at the UN and how we look at countries that disrespect us in the UN, and this vote will be remembered.”
One thing is certain; the vote will be remembered, and not only by the United States. Nikki Haley and the Trump administration’s utter disdain for international cooperation has been made abundantly clear. Trump has entirely removed the United States from its longtime position of leadership in the world.
