Anthony Scaramucci, who served as White House communications director for all of 10 days, is back, and now he’s trying to defend the reprehensible personal behavior of President Donald Trump, suggesting that it’s no big deal Trump had affairs with multiple women and paid hush money to Stormy Daniels a month before the 2016 election.
During an appearance on CNN’s New Day, Scaramucci said it was time for the country to “evolve” and accept the fact that politicians cheat on their wives and act like cads. Afterall, he insisted, President Obama evolved on the issue of same-sex marriage:
“We have a cultural movement now to where we accept marriage equality. We should have a cultural movement again where public officials should be left alone in their personal lives to do what they do.”
Wow! Talk about a false equivalence! How in the world are people seeking equal rights to marry even in the same solar system with unfaithful spouses?
CNN host Chris Cuomo was having none of it, chastising the Mooch by telling him:
“Anthony, the Obama example about marriage equality, that has nothing to do with paying off a porn star to keep quiet about an alleged affair.”
Cuomo then reminded Scaramucci that the president has a habit of lying about everything under the sun and pointed to how the Trump campaign vehemently denied that Melania Trump had stolen parts of her 2016 GOP convention speech from former First Lady Michelle Obama:
“They lied about it, and credibility matters.”
It most certainly does, and even more than ever in this post-truth Age of Trump, where the president and his surrogates routinely attempt to subvert facts and create a new reality out of lies. In the end, the lies are what will bring Donald Trump down.
