Tonight marked the arrival of the much-anticipated interview with Stormy Daniels, a former adult actress who claims that President Donald Trump bullied her into silence about an affair they had in 2006.
The story so far is that days before the 2016 election, Daniels alleges that President Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen paid her $130,000 in “hush money” to keep quiet about her affair with Donald Trump. The White House denied so far that the affair ever took place, but Cohen admitted to paying the actress, claiming that he did so out of his own personal wealth.
Daniels recently leveled a lawsuit against the president, arguing that the “hush” agreement is invalid because, while she, her lawyer, and Trump’s lawyer all signed it, Donald Trump never did.
She shared her story on 60 Minutes tonight.
Daniels claims that attempts to tell the story were forestalled by Michael Cohen, and that she was the victim of a mafia-style threat – involving her infant daughter.
“I was in the parking lot going to a fitness class with my infant daughter…and a guy walked up on me, and said to me: ‘Leave Trump alone. Forget the story.’ And then he leaned around and looked at my daughter and said ‘That’s a beautiful little girl – it’d be a shame if something happened to her mom.’
The story of the president and the pornstar may seem simply salacious to some, but as others have pointed out, Daniels’ story has deeply troubling implications about the president’s character.
This isn’t a story about sex. This is about brutish intimidation and bullying in a craven attempt to shield a bad man from his own pig-headed impetuousness.

If Daniels’ story is true, it means that the president, the person with the most power in the world, will stop at absolutely nothing to silence his enemies – political and otherwise. And that’s something that should trouble all Americans.
