Trump Just Let The Cat Out Of The Bag About How He Really Feels About Addicts

It has only been a few weeks since President Donald Trump made flowery promises about helping people caught in the grip of addiction find treatment. What he failed to mention at the time, however, was just how he felt about those very same people.

It wasn’t a mystery for long, though, as Trump’s been tweeting again.

As usual, a little peephole in the shape of a bird appeared recently and allowed America to get a peep inside Trump’s big orange head, and the results are undeniable.

The president of the United States thinks that people who are addicted to drugs are losers. Here is what he tweeted last Saturday:

With Trump, the hypocrisy and lies run so thick, it seems at times that there is nothing more to the man. One hardly knows where to begin.

Take, for example, what he said out loud versus what he actually does concerning the opiate epidemic.

He said that he would help addicts attain treatment. He even declared the opioid epidemic an emergency and formed a commission to tackle the problem.

There’s a small problem with the commission, however. The issue is that the commission’s only job is to write yet another report about the opiate epidemic and submit it by October.

That’s it. Game over.

That’s literally the only job the new commission has.

When you add in the fact that Trump was heavily rumored to have had an extensive issue with speed in the 1980s and 90s, one can almost hear the sound of a bell announcing Trump’s level of cognitive dissonance.

Sadly, it’s not only Trump’s inaction and hypocrisy that are the problems here. He is actually working actively against addicts with policy decisions and the swipe of a pen.

According to Mother Jones, Trump has done the following things, and they all had the potential to do great harm.

  • Trump’s 2017 budget proposal would have cut $100 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s block grants for mental health, which provide substance abuse programs across the country.
  • His 2018 budget proposal would cut funding from the Department of Health and Human Serves by 16.2 percent. This agency funds SAMHSA as well as other substance abuse and mental health programs.
  • Although he hasn’t managed it yet, Trump wants nothing more than to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, which is the last line of defense for many addicts and provides life-saving treatments.
  • The 2018 budget claimed it included a $500 million increase towards “expanding opioid misuse prevention efforts.” Really, though, that was even a lie. That $500 million was referring to money that already existed from the 21st Century Cures Act, which Obama signed into law late last year.

So, here’s what we learned today. Trump, allegedly an addict himself, thinks that addicts are losers. All while saying he will combat the opioid epidemic, taking no action whatsoever, and actively working against addicts in the meantime. Well, there you have it folks, the President of the United States of Dissonance.

Trump’s slogan should have been “Make America Addicted Again.” Because, at this rate, the opiate epidemic isn’t going away anytime soon.
