If anyone happened to believe Trump was very presidential during his Afganistan address, he’s already back to his old ways. This time he threatened to shut down the government if he doesn’t get his way.
He Wants the Border Wall Funded
On Tuesday during his Arizona rally, Trump threatened to shut down the government if Congress doesn’t present him with a spending bill that involved the border wall.
“The obstructionist Democrats would like us not to do it, but believe me, if we have to close down our government, we’re building that wall,” Trump said at a rally in Phoenix.
Trump pounded in his message during the rally that he was elected to boost national security and keep illegal immigrants out. He has constantly said that the immigrants are dangerous and the reason we have terrorism. He had to note that he’s met with many families who fell victim to violence at the hands of illegal immigrants. I guess he forgot about legal U.S. citizens killing others with vehicles and such.
“I promised these families the deaths of their loved ones will not have been in vain,” he said.
As he has since he started running for office last year, Trump said the border wall was going to happen, and warned Democrats that they were harming national security by opposing it.
“We are building a wall on the southern border, which is absolutely necessary,” he said.
“Let me be very clear to Democrats in Congress who oppose a border wall and stand in the way of border security,” he added. “You are putting all of Americans’ safety at risk.”
The House has already passed legislation that provides 1.6 billion in funding to begin work on Trump’s wall. the good thing is the language may not survive Senate-House negotiations. Trump has put his foot in his mouth once again since his threat could cost him losing votes from not only Democrats but some Republicans as well.
