You’ll Be Blinded By The (Very Very) WHITE House Event Honoring Military Spouses

On Wednesday, the White House held an event honoring military spouses at which President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at expanding government employment opportunities for those married to members of the U.S. armed forces.

But a quick look at some of the photos from the gathering are clearly missing any men or people of color:

First Lady Melania Trump focused on military moms at the White House celebration:

What makes the lack of diversity in the photos even more striking is the fact that fully 40 percent of Defense Department’s active-duty military members in 2015 were composed of racial and ethnic minority groups. If the armed forces can be diverse, why wasn’t the event held to honor them?

Twitter users also wondered exactly what was going on:

While he was at it, the president also took time to tell a giant lie at the Wednesday event for military spouses, bragging that he had managed to get members of the military a pay raise for the first time in over a decade. In reality, members of the armed forces have been given raises every single year for the past four decades.
